2. Annealing & Normalizing 

Used primarily for carbon steel and alloy steel parts. The metal is heated and then slowly cooled either in a furnace (annealing) or in still air (normalizing).

3. Quenching and Tempering

A two-step process involving rapid cooling (quenching) for extreme hardness, followed by reheating to a lower temperature (tempering) to restore toughness.
