In investment casting, the position of casting in the mold affects the quality, dimensional accuracy and difficulty of molding process of investment casting.  

1. The important processing surface or main processing surface of investment casting is down or located on the side: when casting, the gas, slag and sand in the metal liquid will float up, which may make the upper part of the casting appear porosity, slag, sand hole and other defects, while the lower part of the casting has the possibility of defects, the structure is compact.  The pouring position of the machine bed should face down the guide rail to the quality of the important working surface.  The quality of the circumferential surface is higher, and the vertical casting scheme can make the circumferential surface on the side, and the quality is uniform.  

 

2. The large plane of precision castings is downward or inclined casting: because the hot metal liquid during pouring has strong thermal radiation on the upper part of the casting mold, the sand mold on the top surface is expanded arch or even cracked, so that the large plane appears sand, sand holes and other defects.  Casting defects of large flat surface can be avoided by casting large flat surface downwards or by inclined casting method.  

  

3. The thin wall of precision casting is downward, sideways or inclined: in order to prevent cold isolation and failure to pour defects in the thin wall part of the casting, the thin wall with a large area should be placed at the lower part of the casting, or placed in the side wall or inclined position.  


4. Most of the thickness of precision casting should be placed on the top or on the side of the parting surface. The main purpose is to facilitate the placement of riser for feeding at the thickness.
